Vurda is a traditional and specific milk product produced in Lužnica (around Babušnica) and the Pirot region. It is prepared from cow's, sheep's and goat's milk or a mixture of sheep's or goat's milk with cow's milk. They are obtained by squeezing sour milk. The paprika is placed in the squeezed mixture and stored in a clean container at a moderate temperature for about thirty days. During this time, it boils to obtain a quality product with a sour taste and creamy shape (similar to cream cheese or paprika in sour cream). This specialty is a feature of the Lužnice region, and can be found in some villages in the Pirot region. Recently, the products are also sold as ""Lužnica cream cheese with paprika"". Vurda can be found on many tables in the Lužnica region as well as in Niš and throughout Serbia, and recently in Bulgaria. Vurda is served as a salad, cold appetizer or ""appetizer"" with wine and brandy.
