According to various stories, it is said that the village of Banitsa takes its name from the strange banitsas (traditional Bulgarian dish, like pie), which the locals have been making since time immemorial - rolled up in a bun, wrinkled in curls or imposed with toasted crusts. The ""Banitsa Festival"" was held for the first time in 2000 in the open in the center of the village of Banitsa. The idea for the event came from Petar Alexandrov, who is a local resident and found that nowhere in Bulgaria is there a village with such a name. He is also a longtime main sponsor of the event. In the first edition of the event, only seven banitsas are presented to 15-20 audiences, but over time, the delicious competition becomes a real celebration of the traditions of the village. The festival has a competitive character - for the best pastry chef. It is organized by the Municipality of Vratsa, the Municipality of the village of Banitsa and the National Chitalishte ""Svetlina - 1910"" in the village of Banitsa.
