Georgi Damyanovo Municipality covers 13 settlements with a total population of just over 2,500 people. It is located in the Montana district, on the border with the Republic of Serbia, but no border checkpoint. Its territory is 90% mountainous – from high mountain slopes (Kopren peak) along the Ogosta River and parts of the Fore-Balkans.

Until 1958 the village was called Lopushna (the Lopushan monastery was named after him). In 1688 the population joined the Chiprovtsi uprising, and after the Liberation, the communist movement gradually gained many followers, and the village joined the September uprising. Lopushna was renamed after Georgi Damyanov, a communist activist and politician and officer in the Bulgarian army. His home functions as a museum in the village.

On the territory of the municipality of Georgi Damyanovo is a protected area connecting the topos Kopren, Ravno buche, Deyanitsa and Kalimanitsa with the so-called Koprenski waterfalls. Numerous eco-trails cross the area, and there is a tourist complex.

A significant landmark is the Lopushan Monastery.

Due to the weak economic development and the region's natural resources, it can develop rural, hunting, and fishing tourism.

Since 2006 Lopushna Winery Ltd. has been restoring its work and increasing its vineyards.
