Thracian, late antique and medieval fortress Ostroma is located on the eponymous peak, 5.2 km southwest in a straight line from the centre of the village of Osikovitsa. On the peak Ostroma, rising south of Osikovitsa is Kaleto – a fortress built in late antiquity (V-VI century), it was part of the Stara Planina fortification system, as part of this system existed in the XII-XIV century. The strategic locationn of the fortress allowed a direct and visual connection to the other large fortresses in the region – “Urvich” near the village of Bozhenitsa, “Borovets” above Pravets and “Chertigrad.” All these fortresses have visibility to the eastern part of the Botevgrad field and to the Etropole field. They dominate the road Botevgrad-Etropole and have been associated with the control and protection of roads and fortresses since ancient times.
