There is a legend about the name of the “Skaklya” waterfall. According to it, at the end of Ottoman yoke, during a tiring campaign, the Ottoman army crossed the Balkans and darkened under the waterfall. In the morning, when the golden rays of the sun illuminated the sparkling and leaping waters descending from the sheer cliffs, astonished by this unseen beauty, the shepherd, the leader of the army, exclaimed: "Mashala, Skaklya!" The playful golden water reminded him of one of the women in his harem, who was a Balkan woman named Skaklya.
