Rock Chapel "St. Petka"

The rock chapel "St. Petka ”has been studied by archaeologists and they date it to ancient times, as traces of pottery from the 1st millennium BC have been found. Although always revered as a sacred place, after 1944 the chapel was desecrated and used as a stable for goats. During the period 1990-1994, the locals restored it. In 2018 it was declared a cultural monument of local significance.

Today it is believed that the cave has healing properties, the sick pray for health and dig through the hole in a special ritual. Especially many pilgrims flock to Petkovden - the temple holiday.

The rock chapel "St. Petka ”, known as the Cave of St. Petka is an ancient sanctuary near the Barintsi district of Trun. The water flowing from the ceiling of the cave is considered to be a healing water source. The chapel is organized in a natural cave above the spring Ralcha. Inside the cave there are two important objects - the rock "cake", which is decorated with solar motifs, and the carved steps, which are believed to have been left by the saint.
