Few tourists know about the tragedy that happened on May 1, 1966 in Zgorigrad. At the beginning of the Borov Kamak eco-trail, you can see the remains of drainage towers, which were part of the tailings pond of the local lead-zinc mine and factory. After several days of rain, combined with poor design, management and criminal negligence, on May 1, 1966, at about 11:15 a.m., the tailings pond collapsed and nearly half a million cubic meters of mud, silt and water flowed down the slope and swept away many houses and people. Hundreds died, and the communist government classified and hid the case from the people.
