Berkovskа Fortress (Berkovsko Kale= is a cultural monument of historical significance.
The fortification has a visual connection with many of the fortresses along the Ogosta, Barzia, Botunya and Zlatitsa rivers and with good signalization is easily included in defensive actions.
Here are found the ruins of a late antique fortress, incl. external and internal fortress wall, as well as two early Christian basilicas. The churches were part of a Christian religious complex, including a peribolos (fenced yard) and a baptistery (baptistery).
The early Christian complex was probably abandoned in the middle of the 6th century, after the periodic raids of Slavs and Avars.
